How God Communicates and How to Hear Him
Most people know how to talk to God. They were taught how to ask, how to pray, how to seek. But almost no one was taught how to hear Him back. This book fills that gap.
In The Two-Way Street, Wali A. Salaam draws on his own spiritual journey to reveal the many ways God communicates, through the still small voice, through scripture, through people, through open and closed doors, through dreams and intuition, through peace and unease, and through the patterns of your daily life.
This is not a book about religion. It is a book about relationship. It is about awakening the spiritual awareness you already have inside you, learning to recognize divine communication in all its forms, and walking through life with the clarity, confidence, and guidance that comes from truly hearing God.
There comes a moment in life when you realize that everything you have been taught about prayer, spirituality, and inner growth has only given you half the picture.
You know how to talk to God but no one ever taught you how to hear Him. You know how to ask but no one ever taught you how to receive. You know how to seek but no one ever taught you how to recognize the answer when it finally arrives.
I wrote this book because I lived that struggle myself. There were seasons where I prayed faithfully, but felt like I was talking into an empty room. Seasons where I asked for guidance but could not tell if anything was coming back. Seasons where I felt spiritually connected but mentally confused, wondering if I was missing something that everyone else seemed to understand.
What I eventually discovered changed everything: God was speaking the entire time. I just did not know how to listen.
Once I learned how to recognize the different ways God communicates, my entire life shifted. My decisions became clearer. My peace became stronger. My awareness became sharper. My spiritual life became real, active, and alive, not a ritual I performed, but a relationship I lived.
This book is my way of giving you what I wish someone had given me years ago. My intention is simple: to help you understand how God communicates, how to hear Him, and how to grow mentally, spiritually, and socially through that awareness.
This book is not about religion. It is about relationship. It is about awareness. It is about awakening the part of you that has always been connected to something greater.

Most people do not struggle with prayer because they do not believe in God. They struggle because they were never taught how communication with God actually works. They were taught to speak, but not to listen. To ask, but not to receive. To pour out their heart, but not how to recognize when God is pouring something back.
And because of that, prayer starts to feel like a one-way street. You talk. You wait. You hear nothing. You wonder if anything is happening.
But the silence you feel is not the absence of God. It is the absence of understanding. Before you can grow spiritually, you must first confront a truth that most people are never taught: God has been speaking the entire time. The problem was never His silence. The problem was the limits of what you were taught to listen for.
Imagine you are riding in a car with someone close to you. You are talking, expressing what is on your mind, maybe even venting a little. But the whole time, they are quiet. They are listening but they are not responding yet. After a while, you start thinking they are not paying attention. You feel unheard. You assume they do not care. But then, right when you are about to shut down, they finally speak and what they say shows they heard everything. They were listening the whole time. They were simply waiting for the right moment to respond. That is how prayer feels for most people. Not because God is silent. But because we expect Him to respond instantly, in the exact format we imagined, and when He does not, we assume nothing is happening.
Think about a moment when you texted someone something important. You poured your heart out. You waited. You stared at your phone. No reply. Hours later, you checked again and the message had been delivered, read, and responded to. You just did not see the notification. You missed the vibration. You overlooked the alert. You were distracted. The message was there the whole time. You just did not catch it. This is exactly how many people miss God's responses. Not because He did not answer, but because the answer did not come through the channel they were watching.
God speaks through inner nudges, scripture, people, timing, opportunities, resistance, dreams, peace, unease, nature, patterns, clarity, and conviction. The problem is not that God is silent. The problem is that most people were never taught how to recognize His voice.
There is another moment almost everyone has experienced. You ask someone for advice, but deep down, you already know the answer you want. You are not looking for guidance, you are looking for agreement. So when they tell you something different, you dismiss it. But later, sometimes months later, you realize they were right. This is how many people treat God's responses. They pray for a yes, and God gives a not yet. They pray for a specific outcome, and God gives a deeper truth. They pray for relief, and God gives strength. The answer came, it simply did not match the expectation.
Growing up, most people were taught how to pray, how to ask, how to plead, how to cry out, how to express their needs. But almost no one was taught how to sit still, how to listen, how to discern, how to recognize, how to receive, how to interpret, how to wait, or how to be spiritually aware.
So prayer becomes a monologue instead of a dialogue. A performance instead of a relationship. A ritual instead of a conversation. Think about someone you know who talks so much you cannot get a word in. They ask questions but never pause long enough for you to answer. That is how many people pray. They talk, they vent, they unload, they ask, they plead, they cry, they express, and then they get up and move on before God can respond. Not because He did not speak. But because they did not stay long enough to hear.
This chapter is the doorway to everything that follows. Before you can learn how God speaks, you must first understand why you have not been hearing Him. It is not because you are unworthy. It is not because you are disconnected. It is not because God is distant. It is because you were never taught how to receive. This book will teach you that.
You just read Chapter One. There are 9 more chapters packed with insight on how God communicates through every area of your life, and how to hear Him clearly every single day.
